The name Kinetic was inspired by the Greek word "kinesis" meaning "movement". Seiko Kinetic watches are battery-less quartz watches with a built-in power generating system. The generator is powered by the movement of the arm and can rotate at speeds of 10,000 to 100,000 revolutions per minute. The KINETIC technology, patented by Seiko, started in 1988 under the name "A.G.S" (Automatic Generating System); it has been called Kinetic since 1992. The autonomy of these models can last up to 4 years (for Auto-Relay models).

There are many different types of Kinetic gauges : 5M22, 5M23, 5M25, 5M62, 5M63, 5M65, 5M54, 9T82, 5D88, 5D22, 5D44, 7D48, 7D56, 7M22 etc

For the 5M63 calibre, three-hand display, day and date by aperture, power reserve. The diameter of this movement is 27.6 mm, its height 4.3 mm, precision +/- 15 seconds/month, power reserve autonomy of 6 months in full charge.

Technical information :

The movement of the wearer moves the oscillating weight
The gearing amplifies the speed of rotation by 100 times
The generator rotor produces a magnetic charge
The generator coil converts the magnetic charge into electricity
The energy produced is stored in an accumulator
The circuit regulates the voltage and current. It transmits precise pulses to the stepper motor
The quartz vibrates and transmits a very precise signal to the circuit
The stepper motor transforms the impulses from the circuit into rotation
A gear train transmits this rotation to the hands
The hands turn to show the exact time on the dial
